Welcome Message from the Head of Department

A Message from the Head of Department

Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Department, Kinango Technical and Vocational College

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Kinango Technical and Vocational Training College. It is my privilege to lead this department, which is deeply committed to providing quality technical training that equips learners with practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional competence for the modern job market.

Our department focuses on hands-on training, competency-based education, and industry alignment to ensure graduates are well prepared for employment and self-reliance. We believe that true technical education is not confined to the classroom — it is forged in the workshop, at the workbench, and on the job site. Every programme in this department is designed to develop learners who are ready to perform from day one in their chosen field.

We offer a comprehensive range of programmes that span two major pathways. In the Automotive Engineering pathway, trainees can pursue the Diploma in Automotive Engineering Technology (Level 6), Higher Craft Certificate in Automotive Technology (Level 5), Craft Certificate in Automotive Technology (Level 4), and the Artisan Certificate in Motor Vehicle Technology (Level 3). In the Welding and Fabrication pathway, we offer the Higher Craft Certificate (Level 5), Craft Certificate (Level 4), and Artisan Certificate (Level 3). All seven programmes are structured progressively, allowing learners to develop from foundational skills to advanced technical competencies — and to upgrade through the CBET credit accumulation and transfer system.

Through well-equipped workshops, experienced trainers, and industry partnerships, this department produces skilled artisans, technicians and technologists who contribute positively to national development and the growth of Kenya's transport, construction and mechanical sectors. Our facilities — including the motor vehicle workshop, welding and fabrication yard, diesel engine testing bay, automotive electrical lab and plant machinery section — provide a genuine industrial training environment.

We warmly invite all prospective learners, parents, industry partners and stakeholders to engage with our department. Whether your ambition is to become an automotive engineer, a skilled welder and fabricator, a garage owner, or a fleet maintenance manager — you will find your pathway here. Come ready to work hard, learn deeply, and build a future of skill and purpose.
