Welcome Message from the Head of Department & Head of Section

A Message from the Head of Department

Hospitality & Tourism Department, Kinango Technical and Vocational College

Welcome to the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at Kinango Technical and Vocational College. It is my privilege to serve this department in the dual capacity of Head of Department and Head of Section, providing both academic leadership and hands-on operational oversight to ensure that every trainee receives the highest quality of education and practical training.

We are situated in the heart of Kwale County — one of Kenya's most celebrated coastal destinations, home to the world-renowned Diani Beach, Shimba Hills National Reserve, and a growing number of internationally recognised beach resorts and hotels. This location is not just a backdrop; it is our classroom. Our trainees step out of their training facilities and directly into one of the most dynamic hospitality and tourism economies on the continent.

Our department offers four CBET programmes across Levels 4, 5 and 6: Hospitality Management (Level 6 Diploma), Hotel and Restaurant Management (Level 5 Higher Craft Certificate), Food and Beverage Service (Level 4 Craft Certificate), and Catering and Accommodation (Level 4 Craft Certificate). Each programme has been carefully designed to equip trainees with the technical competencies, professional attitudes and customer service excellence that Kenya's top hotels, lodges and tourism enterprises demand.

Training in our department is intensively practical. Our fully equipped training kitchen, restaurant service lab, model guest room, front office simulation area and bakery unit ensure that every trainee gains real, transferable skills in an environment that mirrors industry. We go beyond the classroom through industrial attachments and internships with leading coastal establishments, giving our students direct exposure to professional workplace standards, modern technology and world-class service culture.

We believe in developing complete hospitality professionals — people who are technically skilled, ethically grounded, culturally aware, and entrepreneurially empowered. Whether your ambition is to manage a five-star coastal resort, run your own catering enterprise, or build a career in tourism operations, this department will equip you with the foundation and the confidence to succeed.

I warmly welcome all prospective students, parents, industry partners and stakeholders. Come, let us train together and serve the world with excellence.
